In the County Executive's Office of Community Engagement & Constituent Services, we hold ourselves to a high standard. We are expected to manage our time well, stay responsive, and deliver for residents without constant direction.
That kind of environment builds leaders.
As we head into 2026, the final year of the administration, I wanted to be just as intentional about how we finish as we were about how we started. The work is still meaningful, the pace is still real, and the margin for avoidable missteps gets
smaller in the final year.
At the end of the year, I sat down with each staff member for individual check-ins. The feedback was encouraging. Everyone shared that things were going overall well or good. They felt supported and productive. They felt expectations were clear.
But we did not stop there. We also talked about how each person wants to focus the rest of their time here, how I can support that goal, and what we can do to boost morale as we push through the final stretch.
To be honest, those conversations also reinforced something I have seen over time: even when people feel supported, the same few operational habits can create unnecessary stress. Calendar conflicts. Inconsistent responsiveness. Case notes not being updated. Missed deadlines. Not because people do not care, but because when the pace is high, the basics can slip and when the basics slip, everything feels harder.
So I pulled together a roadmap.
It is called Finishing What We Started, and it is not a new set of rules. It is a clear, shared standard built from what already exists: our job descriptions, our standard operating procedures, and the values and goals we have already agreed to as a team. The roadmap simply brings it into one place, with priorities, strategies, and measures of success that everyone
can see and align around.
The goal is not micromanagement. The goal is clarity, consistency, and momentum. A roadmap that helps us protect morale by reducing surprises, improving coordination, and making it easier for staff to do their best work.
Most importantly, it gives us a shared finish line. If we follow it, we will end 2026 proud of the work we delivered for residents and proud of how we supported each other along the way.
Take a look at the roadmap below.
