Working in county government during the COVID-19 pandemic will, without a doubt, be one of the most challenging things I've ever done in my life. But, it will also be one of the most rewarding. When the process for vaccine rollouts began, we immediately started collecting emails to communicate updates to residents. As vaccine availability and the number of people vaccinated increased, we wanted to keep communications open with this group and engage them in other county government functions.
I worked with the comms team to develop an onboarding process to understand what residents wanted to be updated on and allow them to customize their email alerts by selecting topics of interest to them. Below is what that email looked like and the form we used to collect the data. It was essential to gather enough information to personalize future outreach, but not ask for too much data and discourage conversion.
